Cricket trophy in memory of Arthur Lamb

Cumbria Cricket League is crowdfunding to set up a new trophy in memory of my friend and county council colleague Arthur Lamb, who tragically died unexpectedly in his sleep in January this year at the age of 31. And a week after being launched, their campaign is already 91% of the way to raising the £1,500 target. You can donate by following the link below:

I knew Arthur as a brilliant political campaigner who was chairman of Copeland Conservatives at the time of the historic Conservative victory in the Copeland by-election, and as a doughty advocate for his community, whose achievements included leading the successful campaign to keep a full size tender at Frizington Fire Station. At the time of his death he was Chief Whip of the Conservatives on Cumbria County Council and a Deputy Chairman of Cumbria Conservatives.

But Arthur packed more into his 31 years than many people do in a 70 year lifetime. Among the many other things he did, Arthur was a tireless worker for Cricket in Cumbria, acting as an umpire and as a club official and above all a coach: the night before he died he was running a cricket session in St Bees which he described to his parents later that evening as a really good night's coaching session with the kids.

He is remembered fondly by his colleagues in the world of cricket in Cumbria, in the Conservative party, and those who worked with him both on the county council and in the NHS.

So it is very fitting that the cricket league are seeking to endow a premier league trophy in memory of Arthur. In their words:

"This is to raise funds for a Premiership Trophy in memory of Arthur Lamb a dear friend and colleague, who sadly passed away January this year, aged 31. He was a dedicated to coaching young players at Whitehaven Cricket Club, secretary for the Whitehaven club, Councillor, member of our Committee, and Umpires Federation secretary, also our Website Administrator. Arthur started the ball rolling for the Cumbria Cricket League to become up to date with the modern times and take us in to the future of cricket online and the driving force to get us onto Play Cricket site, Play Cricket After we raise the funds to replace the fragile and broken trophy the remaining monies will go to the charity Arthur's family chose at the time he passed which is the Epilepsy foundation."

I am really pleased to see this and that the campaign is going so well.
