Help for Households - Get government cost of living support








From today eight million families will receive their third Cost of Living Payment, bringing the total payments to £900 of support per household and representing a £2 billion support package, as we continue to stick to the plan to lower inflation and cut taxes to ensure people can keep more of their money.

  • By sticking to the plan, we have more than halved inflation, allowing us to cut taxes for 27 million working people but as we drive inflation down further, we must continue to support the most vulnerable. That is why, from today eight million low-income households will receive their third Cost of Living Payment, totalling £900, to support with household costs such as energy bills. 
  • This will ensure that as we stick to the plan to lower inflation, grow the economy, and reduce debt, families who need extra targeted support will receive it and people’s money will go further.

Pat Graham RIP

I was very sorry to learn that Pat Graham, the last Chief Executive of Copeland Borough Council, died this morning. She was a consummate professional and widely respected by the vast majority of councillors and staff members she dealt with. Trudy Harrison MP, the local member of parliament, who knew Pat Graham very well, having worked with her when they were both at Copeland Council, wrote this moving tribute to Pat: "Pat was the best ambassador for us women to look up to, I learned from Pat that motherhood and forging a professional career can go together.  A tragic day for West Cumbria and all who knew her, I can’t begin to comprehend what her family are now going through.  I hope we can keep the project flames burning brightly on those she sparked and really cared about." Very many condolences to her family. Rest in Peace.

Conservatives announce new Nuclear Skills Task force

Today the Conservative government announced a new   Nuclear Skills Taskforce , improving skills and expanding job opportunities in the nuclear sector as we work to grow the economy.  Our nuclear sector is central to our economy and security, and supports hundreds of thousands of jobs, so we must continue developing nuclear skills to help to keep our country safe and grow our economy. That is why today the Conservative government announced the launch of our Nuclear Skills Taskforce, chaired by Sir Simon Bollom, which will address how the UK continues to develop nuclear skills across our defence and civil workforce, and will develop a skills strategy to support a significant growth in nuclear jobs in the coming years.  This task force will both bolster our national security and grow our economy, setting up our nuclear sector for future success and helping to create more jobs in the future.
